Try a Chapter Tag

read-a-chapter-tag

I found this tag while bouncing around different booktube videos and stumbled across this video by the wonderful BooksandLala. It’s a pretty old tag by now, but I like the idea of it so I’m doing it. I have so many books I’ve been wanting to read but I have a hard time choosing, I’m so indecisive. This tag will help me decide.

The original creator is BookParadise on YouTube.

RULES:

  1. Pick 5 (or more) books from your tbr
  2. Read the first chapter of all of them (including the prologue if there is one)
  3. Tell your readers if you’re sold on the book and what you thought of the first chapter. Are you going to finish the book this month?

What I decided to do was pick five books that have been on my tbr for too long, because what is happening now is that the books I bought a long time ago are just being forgotten because there are so many new books I’m excited about. Then I’m going to do what Lala did in her video and pick one “winner”, i.e. finish the book I think seems the most interesting based on the first chapter. I’ll finally read one of the books I’ve had sitting around for ages, maybe years. Yay!

Here are the books I’ll read the first chapter of. As I’m writing this I still haven’t started reading them.

I bought this one forever ago because I stumbled across the hardcover in a bookstore, which is so rare with English books here, but it’s just been gathering dust on my bookshelf ever since. I don’t know the details of what it’s about, but something about a fantasy version of ancient Rome? Slaves? I think it’s a dystopian series? Maybe?

This was originally on my “will read in 2016” list. Well… That didn’t happen. I’ll read the first chapter and see if I’m going to finish it this month or nah. The premise seems really dark and a bit hard for me to explain, so I recommend just reading the Goodreads synopsis.

I’ve been wanting to get on this series forever, you guys. I desperately want to read Six of Crows but I feel like I can’t because I haven’t read the Grisha trilogy.

Adam Silvera is an author I really want to read, he seems to write really beautiful and heartbreaking books which is just right up my alley. And this has been on my kindle for ages, I just need to kick myself and get to it.

I know there’s something about twins in this, and them finding back to each other after having fallen out or lost touch or something like that. Apparently the writing style is very different as well, which can be a hit or a miss…

Mid-Year Book Freak Out Tag

I wasn’t tagged by anyone, but I love this tag and I did it last year (at least I think I did) so I feel like I have to do it again this year. How are we halfway through 2016 already?? Yikes.

The tag was created by Chami @ ReadLikeWildFire and Ely @ Ely Jayne. It’s where we look back at (and freak out over) the books we’ve read during the past six months.

Best Book You’ve Read So Far In 2016

13600168Possibly Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor, which I read in early February. I really love that book a lot, the writing is just stunning and so is the world-building. I have to say though that The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater might be a close runner-up, as well as Ready Player One by Ernest Cline.

Best Sequel You’ve Read So Far In 2016

22363172I’ve only read one sequel so far this year, so the award must go to Days of Blood and Starlight by Laini Taylor. I loved it though, I gave it 4.5 stars.

New Release You Haven’t Read Yet, But Want To

2603069728696452This Savage Song by V.E. Schwab is high on my tbr. So is Fellside by M.R. Carey. I’ve purchased both and they’re sitting on my shelf waiting for me to pick them up. I might actually be more excited about Fellside at the moment (I really loved The Girl With All the Gifts and Fellside seems to be about ghosts!), but we’ll see which one I end up liking more.

The Diverse Books Tag

diverse books

Hey guys, how’s your summer going? Next week I’m going on a brief vacation, hopefully the weather is better there than here. I swear the arctic isn’t the place to be when you love summer. Anyway, let’s do a book tag! Thanks to Jenna @ Fictional Neverland for tagging me, I love this tag.

Without further ado…

A BOOK STARRING A LESBIAN CHARACTER

6334889

I have plenty of books with wlw main characters on my tbr but I haven’t gotten around to very many of them yet. I have to pick from a larger cast, so I’ll go with the Gone series by Michael Grant where the character Dekka is a lesbian (or at least interested in girls, I don’t remember if her orientation was specified), as well as African American. This series is a guilty pleasure of mine. It gets ridiculous at times, but I ate it all up.

A BOOK WITH A MUSLIM PROTAGONIST

27190613

I can’t think of any books I’ve finished that has a Muslim protagonist, but I’m reading And I Darken right now and that applies. Mehmed is a Muslim, and if I know my history right then Radu eventually converts to Islam too. Nice coincidence right in time for this tag.

Burn, Rewrite, Reread Tag

burn rewrite reread tag

Hey guys!

Thanks to Sara @ Freadom Library for tagging me! This is a fun tag, it’s the bookish version of kiss, marry, kill. I have a feeling it’s gonna be hard.

RULES:

  • Randomly choose 3 books (Tip: Use the “Sort > Random” option on your Goodreads’ Read shelf.).
  • For each group, decide which book to burn, which one to rewrite, and which to reread (a lot like Kiss, Marry, Kill).
  • Repeat until you completed three rounds (or six).

The Playlist Shuffle Tag

playlist shuffle tag

I wasn’t tagged in this, but I was listening to music on shuffle when I happened to scroll past Sara @Freadom Library‘s post and decided to do it.

I put all my spotify playlists into one folder and shuffled them, so you’ll get lots of different stuff here. My playlists are mainly various OTP playlists I’ve created, writing inspiration, and childhood nostalgia, plus some complete albums here and there.

RULES

  • Put your music on shuffle and list the first 15 songs to play (no cheating) then tag 10 others to do it as well.
  1. Hall of Fame – The Script
  2. Happily – One Direction
  3. Home -Three Days Grace
  4. If I Talk to God – The Last Goodnight
  5. Rose’s Theme – Murray Gold (Doctor Who soundtrack)
  6. Doomsday – Murray Gold (Doctor Who soundtrack)
  7. Din kjole lukter bensin, mor – Kaizers Orchestra
  8. Don’t Tell Me – Avril Lavigne
  9. Før Du Går – Sirkus Eliassen (if you’re Norwegian you’re judging me so hard now LOL. This one’s from my party playlist from a couple years ago, if that’s an excuse…)
  10. Boom, Boom, Boom – Vengaboys (my childhood nostalgia playlist…)
  11. Sammen Finner Vi Frem – Ylvis (don’t judge, Norwegians)
  12. The Astronaut – Something Corporate
  13. Up In The Air – Thirty Seconds to Mars
  14. I’m Just A Kid – Simple Plan
  15. Marry You -Bruno Mars

Why did none of the songs I currently listen to show up? It’s a conspiracy! hahaha.

This is a very old and popular tag so I don’t want to tag anyone in case you’ve already done it 900 times. Feel free to consider yourself tagged if you want to do it!

Do you have guilty pleasure songs on your playlist(s)? Or do you not believe in guilty pleasures?

Harry Potter Tag!

bannerhptag

I’m sorry I’m having such a bad blogging month, you guys. I’m scheduling a couple posts today, so I’ll at least be back on track for the next few days. Here’s a tag created by Trang from bookidote! I’m a giant Potterhead so this is perfect.

Her one important rule is that you can’t use any of the HP books in your answers. Uh-oh.

Let’s roll.

(All graphics in this post were created by the bloggers @ bookidote. Borrowed with permission.)
