If you ask me what my favorite book is I will probably feel compelled to mention Harry Potter before anything else.
After Harry Potter ended there were the Dark Ages. Also known as my Twilight phase. But we don’t talk about that.
Now I love reading books with some darkness to them or books that make you wonder what on earth is going on, More Than This by Patrick Ness comes to mind. As a result I often gravitate towards dystopian novels, thrillers, and mysteries. In 2015 I finished my Masters degree in English Literature and wrote my MA thesis on gender perfomativity in The Hunger Games and The Handmaid’s Tale, novels from the opposite ends of the female led dystopian trend.
I also really enjoy books with LGBTQA characters in them, we desperately need more of that in mainstream fiction.
Recently I read mostly YA, but adult books sneak into the TBR pile every now and then.
And give me intriguing and well-written female characters and I’ll be all up in that. Eventually.
Other than books I also read and write a ton of fanfiction, I’ve been hooked since the tender age of 15. A lot of them are heaps better than a lot of professionally published books.
Some great recent reads:
- Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock by Matthew Quick
- Beauty Queens by Libba Bray
- The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater
