Top 5 Wednesday (12) | Characters I’ll Defend Until My Dying Breath

top 5 wednesday

It’s been a while since I’ve done a T5W but I felt like I could answer this topic, so yay. Top 5 Wednesday was created by Lainey @ gingerreadslainey and is currently hosted by Sam @ ThoughtsOnTomes. If you want to join Top 5 Wednesday take a look at the Goodreads group!

The topic of today is

Characters You Defend
–These are characters you love, but no one else seems to so you are always defending them!
I’m not going the “but no one else seems to” route because I don’t love a lot of characters that are widely hated, but I’ll pick some characters that I’ll always defend when someone does hate on them. Of course people are allowed to hate them if they so please, but I’ll be sending counter-arguments their way and make a voodoo doll of them.

Obviously I can’t stick to just books on this one. I have a lot of feelings.

Lexa (The 100)

I will stan and defend Lexa until my dying breath. Not going to say anything more about that. Reshop, Heda.

Speaking of Lexa though. A friend and I recently discovered they’re doing Comic Con in Copenhagen in September (IS THIS REAL LIFE) and one of the first two confirmed guests is none other than Alycia (Lexa) herself. Hold me, I can’t breathe. So naturally the first thing we did was order tickets. Who else is coming? I don’t know, I don’t care. Holy shit. Aasdfghjkiuhyuh

Book Traveling Thursday (21) | An Adorable LGBT+ Couple

book traveling thursday meme
It’s Thursday and time for another Book Traveling Thursday. This weekly meme was created by Cátia @ The Girl Who Read Too Much and Danielle @ Danielle’s Book Blog. Visit their Goodreads group to learn more about Book Traveling Thursday 🙂

The rules are to share covers related to the weekly theme where you include the original cover, the cover from your country, your favorite, and your least favorite. I’ve decided to go for a top 3 and bottom 3 arrangement, because that’s more fun and I get to showcase more covers.

This week’s theme is “Favorite LGBTQ+ couple“. I wish I could pick one from the L side of things but I haven’t read that many books with f/f couples yet, damn. And I’ve already done Ari & Dante and I feel like everyone’s picked Simon VS. the Homo Sapiens Agenda for this, so I’m going with something different. More Norwegian books, yay! I chose Jarle and Yngve from Mannen Som Elsket Yngve (The Man Who Loved Yngve) by Tore Renberg. I read it back in 2008 maybe so it’s been quite some time, but I love this book, and the movie as well.

I don’t think it’s been translated into English, sadly, but if you know any of the other languages it’s been translated into I totally recommend reading it. And the movie has subs so you could watch that too, because the movie’s great.

ORIGINAL COVER

This is a strange cover but it’s kinda nostalgic for me so I don’t mind it, even though it doesn’t tell you anything about the book. I wish the font was more exciting though.

Top Ten Tuesday | Books I Picked Up On A Whim

top ten tuesday blog

This weekly meme was was created by The Broke and the Bookish. This today’s theme is a “Ten Books I Picked Up On A Whim (however you decide to interpret that (bought or read or something else)“.

So obviously, these are books I’ve picked up without knowing anything about them. They’re not recs, just random books I’ve decided to get. I don’t think I have many books like that, because usually I’ve heard a little bit about them somewhere, but let’s try and make a list.

This list is in no particular order.

The Truth by Jeffry W. Johnston

A NetGalley ARC that I read because the cover drew me in. It’s a pretty decent story but not overly memorable, except the ending.

Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher

I picked this up and read it back in 2011. The cover and the title intrigued me. The book itself… not so much. It’s a no from me.

Jonas needs Tate. He just doesn’t know it yet.

Or at least, he doesn’t want to admit it. Because there is no way Jonas Ashcroft is gay. He’s a straight, carefree frat boy player, just like any good son of a conservative state senator. If only his struggle to convince everyone—especially himself—didn’t leave him so miserable. No matter how many girls or bottles he drowns himself in, Jonas can neither escape nor accept who he is.

Enter Tate. He’s smart, confident, and instantly sees right through Jonas’s surly exterior. Sure, he’s done things in life he’s not proud of, but he knows who he is and what he wants. And what he wants is Jonas. As their easy friendship intensifies into something more, Tate introduces Jonas to a life he’s never known. One filled with acceptance and sex and a love that terrifies and excites them both.

But some inner demons refuse to be shaken off so easily. When Jonas’s old life barges in, he faces a shattering choice, one that could destroy everything he and Tate have fought so hard for. Sometimes love just isn’t enough—and sometimes it’s exactly what you need.

I received a free copy by the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
The thing with New Adult, or at least my impression of New Adult, is that it’s not really anything new or exciting all that often. No new plots, new characters, or new relationships. To me, this is nothing different from what I read on AO3 every day and have been reading online every day for the last decade or so.

Book Traveling Thursday (20) | Bookish BFFs

The rules are to share covers related to the weekly theme where you include the original cover, the cover from your country, your favorite, and your least favorite. I’ve decided to go for a top 3 and bottom 3 arrangement, because that’s more fun and I get to showcase more covers.

This week’s theme is “Because friendship matters choose your favorite bookish BFF. I’m not sure whether this mean favorite character who could be your BFF in real life, or favorite friendship in books. I’m going with the last one because it’s more interesting. I chose to go with a recent read, Mike and Jared from The Rest of Us Just Live Here by Patrick Ness.

I wouldn’t go as far as to call it my favorite friendship ever (because Harry, Ron and Hermione exist) but I really enjoyed their friendship and I want to look at this book’s covers SOOO.

ORIGINAL COVER

the rest of us just live here

I like it because it highlights the ordinary people in the midst of all the special kids (“indie kids”) but at the end of the day it makes it look too middle grade.  I think this cover came before the other one but correct me if I’m wrong, I just remember seeing this first.

Top 5 Wednesday (11) | Characters I’m Most Like

top 5 wednesday

It’s been a while since I’ve done a T5W but I felt like I could answer this topic, so yay. Top 5 Wednesday was created by Lainey @ gingerreadslainey and is currently hosted by Sam @ ThoughtsOnTomes. If you want to join Top 5 Wednesday take a look at the Goodreads group!

The topic of today is “Characters you are most like.” The full task is as follows:

Choose characters you are like, not characters you WANT to be like. You can also choose one character trait you share with a particular character. For example, you may not have Hermione’s bravery, but you do have her book smarts!

Awesome.  I’ll stick to book characters only for this one, even though I could only really think of three characters.. #fail

Simon Spier (Simon VS. the Homo Sapiens Agenda)

Something about Simon’s personality just spoke to me and I recognized myself in some of the things he was thinking about that I’ve never seen people talk about before. So I was like “aaaay, me too, bro!”

Cath (Fangirl)

I didn’t really like Fangirl, but I can’t deny that Cath is me and I am Cath. She is so me on so many levels that it’s not even funny. Though I would never blatantly write fanfic for class, I’m insulted that she was such a moron.

Katniss Everdeen (The Hunger Games)

By curry23 @ deviantArt

All right, so she’s definitely way braver and way more kickass than me, I’d be the first to die in the Hunger Games, not gonna lie. But I identify a lot with her on a more personal level. That’s what first hit me when I read these books. Give me more stoic, unromantic girls.

I thought this would be easier than it was. I wanted to pick some characters I feel really similar to though, and not just one or two shared traits. I could have filled the list if I went with non-book characters too, but eh.
Who do you identify with?

Burn, Rewrite, Reread Tag

burn rewrite reread tag

Hey guys!

Thanks to Sara @ Freadom Library for tagging me! This is a fun tag, it’s the bookish version of kiss, marry, kill. I have a feeling it’s gonna be hard.

RULES:

  • Randomly choose 3 books (Tip: Use the “Sort > Random” option on your Goodreads’ Read shelf.).
  • For each group, decide which book to burn, which one to rewrite, and which to reread (a lot like Kiss, Marry, Kill).
  • Repeat until you completed three rounds (or six).
