The topic of today is “Favorite mothers/maternal figures”. I love this topic, hopefully I can think of enough mothers. I’m scrolling through my goodreads list and not that many books jump out at me, maybe I’m not reading the right books or there just aren’t that many notable mothers in YA.
Alana from Saga
I absolutely love Alana, she’s such a great and kick-ass character. I still have to read the fifth volume, but I highly recommend this graphic novel series.
“Ma” from Room
Oh, Ma. I felt so bad for her through the entire book and I felt even worse watching the movie. She deserves a spot on the list.
Molly Weasley from Harry Potter
Duh. No list of mothers is complete without Molly, who is pretty much Harry’s foster mother. Though an honorable mention goes to all mothers in Harry Potter, such as Lily Potter and even Narcissa Malfoy.
Diana Ladris from Gone
This list isn’t just for good people, right? Bad people make good characters, so I’m going to include some. Because I’m running out of good mothers, okay. This is a bit of a spoiler if you haven’t read the entire series, but it’s pretty minor all in all, you probably wouldn’t be able to guess what actually happens. Anyway, Diana. I loved Diana when I read this series, though she’s one of the Bad Guys and I don’t know how well she fits the category of “mother”…
Lovis from Ronia, the Robber’s Daughter
Um. So I really ran out of mothers. I’m not even sure if I’ve read the book, I think I have, once upon a time when I was a child. I’ve mainly watched the movie about a million times. I’m pretty sure I have read the book though, so I’m going to include Lovis. I have very fond memories of her lullaby, that’s mostly why. Plus she’s awesome. Goals.

Molly is an amazing mother. But I really love Narcissa too! She’s such an interesting character for me.
