Top 5 Wednesday (12) | Characters I’ll Defend Until My Dying Breath

top 5 wednesday

It’s been a while since I’ve done a T5W but I felt like I could answer this topic, so yay. Top 5 Wednesday was created by Lainey @ gingerreadslainey and is currently hosted by Sam @ ThoughtsOnTomes. If you want to join Top 5 Wednesday take a look at the Goodreads group!

The topic of today is

Characters You Defend
–These are characters you love, but no one else seems to so you are always defending them!
I’m not going the “but no one else seems to” route because I don’t love a lot of characters that are widely hated, but I’ll pick some characters that I’ll always defend when someone does hate on them. Of course people are allowed to hate them if they so please, but I’ll be sending counter-arguments their way and make a voodoo doll of them.

Obviously I can’t stick to just books on this one. I have a lot of feelings.

Lexa (The 100)

I will stan and defend Lexa until my dying breath. Not going to say anything more about that. Reshop, Heda.

Speaking of Lexa though. A friend and I recently discovered they’re doing Comic Con in Copenhagen in September (IS THIS REAL LIFE) and one of the first two confirmed guests is none other than Alycia (Lexa) herself. Hold me, I can’t breathe. So naturally the first thing we did was order tickets. Who else is coming? I don’t know, I don’t care. Holy shit. Aasdfghjkiuhyuh

Katniss Everdeen (The Hunger Games)

Katniss gets some flack sometimes because she’s somewhat cold, “rude,” and emotionally stunted, but that’s what I love so much about her. You don’t need to be happy and perfectly polite all the time, especially not when your country is going to shit.

Ron Weasley (Harry Potter)

Surprisingly a lot of people hate Ron. That hurts my very soul as he is one of the first characters I really loved. Maybe these people have been influenced by the movies, as there was a lot of character assassination going on there with Ron. Book Ron is not the same as Movie Ron. When people ask what Hermione could possibly see in Ron I will go on a rant.

“If you want to kill Harry, you’ll have to kill us too!”

Mickey Milkovich (Shameless US)

My all-time favorite character right next to Lexa. You both deserved better. I won’t rant about it because it makes me so angry but I still have yet to finish season 6 because I’m so upset over what happened. I’m not excusing some of Mickey’s past actions, but when people pretend like he’s just a mean thug I will lose my cool. We have to remember his traumas when we talk about him and his actions.

All I wanted was for Mickey to be happy. Literally, that was it. Goddamn it.

“Fuck you, fuck you, and especially fuck you.”

Sansa Stark (A Song of Ice and Fire/Game of Thrones)

I’ve defended Sansa ever since season 1. Lots of people hate(d) her just because she was “annoying” and acted like “a spoiled princess.” Well, that was kind of the point and she’s grown from that, as most children do. We must remember she’s an 11 years old child in the beginning of the show and she was raised with the mindset of getting married and living happily ever after. Her fight has always been silent and internal, and now we’ll finally see some of that come out as well with her and Jon taking back the North. I hope season 6 will be good to Sansa. Knock on wood.

There were some others I wanted to add, like Cas from Supernatural because for some reason a lot of people really hate both Cas and Misha (both is beyond me) but suddenly I’d reached five already. Oh well. Next time!

Ugh I hate it when people diss Ron and especially when they can’t understand why it’s him and Hermione. I never even questioned it in the book – it was perfect and the kiss was amazing. For some reason I felt the chemistry of the two characters in the movie fell short and it just had no where near enough impact, which was a shame.

Yeah, I hate it too, it pisses me off when people act like Ron isn’t good enough for Hermione. Emma definitely had more on-screen chemistry with Dan, which is a shame. I love Harry and Hermione’s friendship, but they focused too much on it and focused too little on Ron and Hermione’s as well as Harry and Ron’s. It’s sad really.

This plus Emma was more of a natural actress compared to Rupert so she got a lot of his witty lines in the movies. In the books you can tell Ron likes Hermione from about the 4th book, maybe even earlier, so it’s really not a surprise. One my recent re-read of the books it struck me how much like Mr. and Mrs. Weasley Ron and Hermione are, so it;s really not all that strange they got together.

Latinas and Ron YES! I’m not sure how anybody could hate ron, he’s my favourite character. Mind you I also don’t actually hate Draco, like everyone else does, am I weird?
I just feel like Draco’s actions are because of his parents and surroundings, he could be a bully and I could hate him sometimes but I still end up liking him after movie Deathly Hallows. I still have to read half blood Prince and dealthy hallows so if he does something terrible in the books. Ill be eating my words XD

LOL I assume “Latinas” is autocorrect? XD Anyway, YES, Ron is my favorite character too, I get so confused when people hate him.

I don’t hate Draco as a character, but I don’t love him either. He’s a good character, but I don’t fall all over myself because of him.

Oh my, i’m so sorry! It was about half 1 when I read the post and my phone must of changed it aha. Yes I mean Katniss! I’m not sure how anybody could hate Ron, he’s so cute. All that tension build up with him and Hermione too! Love it! XD

Ugh I feel this list in my soul hahah I agree with all of them. I can’t believe people would hate Ron, he’s a sweetheart, at least that’s how I remember him. And Lexa was amazing!
As for Mickey, well, I can understand why people don’t like him. I don’t love him unconditionally because, as you said, his past actions were questionable to say the least, but that’s why I think he is interesting. He didn’t deserve what he got.
I admit to disliking Sansa in season 1, but that’s because I was an idiot and didn’t get her. She should be the queen of the world, the rest should bow before her lol

People hating Ron genuinely makes me so sad hahaha. 😦

I will always love Mickey unconditionally LOL. I used to really dislike him until it suddenly hit me how amazing he is and what incredible character development he was starting to go through. Plus Noel is such a phenomenal actor, he stole every scene he was in, at least for me. Emmy does too, scenes with both of them in it basically blow my mind XD

I hope Sansa and Jon succeed in their plans and I hope Sansa gets her revenge on Ramsay. Ugh.

I could not agree more with you on Lexa, Katniss, and Ron, Katniss especially. She’s one of my favorite characters ever because she’s so badass and really doesn’t care what people think of her. She’s there to help her family and that’s all that matters to her (well, at least in the beginning, as she does develop to be someone who tries to help everyone she can).

Oh my, I am defending all these characters too, even though I didn’t know I had to in most cases (except for Sansa – that took some serious persuading to make my friends understand). I am so mad with the direction they took on some of the TV shows.

Oh man, I’ve had so many conversations in the past with people who hate Sansa, trying to reason with them. Most of them are eating their words now.

Oh, me too. I still shake with rage when I think about Shameless and The 100.

No idea! Most of the time they seem to think he’s a bad friend to Harry and not good enough for Hermione for whatever reasons. And they act like his jealousy makes him the worst person ever, but it’s a realistic character flaw for him to have after living his entire life in someone else’s shadow. It gives him complexity D:

I honestly love seeing Sansa grow from where she was at season one till now. I get what you mean when you say people give Sansa flack. It’s just with other more active characters, she gets lost in the fray. Her story still appeals to me, though! 😁

That’s so awesome that you’re meeting Alycia! She seems like such a wonderful person. I hope you have a great time 😀

I don’t watch Game of Thrones anymore, but when I did I loved Sansa so much and was super protective of her, haha.

She does! I hope she doesn’t end up canceling for some reason XD That would suck.

A lot of people stopped watching it, which is understandable but I still enjoy the show ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Glad to hear you loved Sansa 😀

Hi! I really love your blog so I nominated it for my Liebster Award post! Here’re the info and the questions if you want to pass it along! (https://thelilynotepad.wordpress.com/2016/05/29/liebster-award-qa/) If not, no hard feelings! Keep up the great work and content!

Also, I was just wondering if you had any tips for making my blog look nicer? Such as how to make nice headers etc., because your blog is beautiful but I’m having a hard time finding the tools to do it!

Hi, thank you so much! I’ll make sure I get around to answering your questions, but I can’t guarantee it’ll be soon (I’m such a procrastinator lol).

I’m glad you like the look of my blog 🙂 I’ve made all the graphics etc myself this far, using photoshop, but if you don’t know how to use photoshop or other photo editing tools then you can easily find people who make headers for others 😀 I like your header though, I like simplicity 🙂

Yesss Lexa! I loooove her character so much and Alycia is portraying her so amazingly. I have yet to see season three, but I basically know all the important twists, because spoilers are everywhere on social media… really hoping we get to see this season soon here in Germany. Octavia is my second fave in the 100. Have you read the books? I’ve heard the books and show are very different and many like the show more.
