Top Ten Tuesday | New-to-me authors read in 2015

top ten tuesday

This weekly meme was was created by The Broke and the Bookish. This week’s theme is “Top Ten New-To-Me Favorite Authors I Read For The First Time In 2015“. I still have some new-to-me authors to finish off December with, but we’ll see what I can make of this post.

I ended up making this a top 7, because a lot of the other new-to-me authors ended up being more on the meh side.

These will be in no particular order.

1. Patrick Ness

Patrick NessThis one is a no-brainer if you’ve read anything on my blog before. I’ve become obsessed with Ness’s storytelling and I can’t wait to finally read Monsters of Men, it’s standing in my shelf looking at me. The first book by him that I picked up was The Knife of Never Letting Go [my review], and I listened to it on audiobook, which was a great choice because the narrator is amazing.

2. Victoria Schwab

Victoria SchwabAnother no-brainer if you’ve read my blog Vbefore. I rave about Vicious [my review] all the time. I inhaled the entire book in one sitting in June. I’m so excited about the sequel that I just asdfghj. I’m halfway through A Darker Shade of Magic and unfortunately it’s not grabbing me as much as Vicious, but I’ll read it til the end and see what I think.

3.Gillian Flynn

Gillian FlynnI’ve been hearing about Flynn’s books for a long time, but I only sat down with Gone Girl this summer and I loved it. I own several of her other books and I really need to get to them.

4. Kendare Blake

Kendare BlakeI’ve only read Anna Dressed in Blood, but I actually loved it more than I expected. I need to read the sequel but I’m so lazy when it comes to ordering online, hah. I always put it off.

 5. Becky Albertalli

Becky AlbertalliI haven’t seen anyone who didn’t like Simon VS. the Homo Sapiens Agenda. No one. Just that fact alone made it irresistible for me not to read it and what do you know, I loved it too.

 6. Benjamin Alire Sáenz

Benjamin Alire SàenzAnother one I read this summer, back when I had a lot of spare time. I’ve only read Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe, I hope he writes more books along the same lines as that.

 7. Rainbow Rowell

Rainbow RowellI actually started reading Fangirl [my review] in the summer of 2014, but I’m going to count Rowell because I didn’t finish it until this summer. The reason for that is that I wasn’t too impressed by it but I appreciate her writing style (most of the time) and her characters. I’m reading Eleanor & Park right now and I like it a lot more than Fangirl, it’s super adorable but angsty at the same time, so it fits me.

What authors did you discover this year? 😀

I’ve only read Rowell, Flynn and Ness from your list. I loved Gone Girl when I read it, and I love Rowells stories as well! They’re super relatable and cute. Although, I’ve only read The Rest of Us Just Live Here by Ness and I absolutely did not enjoy it. I want to give The Knife of Never Letting Go a chance, though. Great list!

Here is my Top Ten Tuesday!

I’ve heard several people say they didn’t like The Rest of Us as much as his other books, I haven’t read it myself but from the synopsis I’m not too interested in it even though I love Ness. Chaos Walking is great and More Than This is my favorite of his 😀 Thanks for your comment!

This year I’ve been obsessed with Percy Jackson, so Rick Riordan’s one of my favorite all time authors! I actually have 25 of his books, so he is also my most read author! (SOproudofthat)!
